Lovely post Ruby. I dread to think what we'll find when we have to clear my old man's place. My mum's got him, mostly on the straight and narrow but there's bound to be hidden caches.
Oh, and are we absolutely sure that Plastic Jesus on a Spring isn't actually Peter Sutcliffe? The resemblance is uncanny.
What a milestone. Your granda sounds amazing. And sounds like your granny was too – what a send off, all those mourners lining the streets and streaming the funeral, when only 20 were allowed inside.
We had one of those springy Jesuses on a car dashboard years ago. We're not religious, we just liked it as a totem. I'm wondering now what happened to it.
What a beautiful tribute to your grandparents. They sound like wonderful people! My grandma is also deeply Catholic and it makes me very curious about what we might find in her cupboards!
Very moving Ruby. My favourite but was the reference to the queue of cars. What an endorsement of how wonderful she was. And your grandad also sounds hilarious. X
Loved this Ruby. Love the love you have for your grandparents and all the catholic references (I forgot how many palm crosses you can fit behind a picture frame)… a funny and moving read. X
This post was an absolute banger! Parts of it had me laughing out loud and it was so poignant and touching by the end. Your granny sounds like a legend and good ol' grandda is a riot as well.
You handled subjects that are normally dreary with warmth & tact. You chose your grandparents very carefully. I have been through the drill of emptying a flat or a house again & again, for myself and my parents and my neighbors. Very kind of your grandad to downsize (Americanism!) from a whole house to a flat. He maintained the house so well that it did not linger on the market. Good on you, Grandad.
So funny and in parts so sad, I welled up at funeral where everyone lined the streets to give your granny an incredible send off, very touching xx
thank you so much!❤️

thanks Rebecca 🥰 lol yeah why bother buying any ornaments when they give away all the decor you could possibly need on Palm Sunday 😂
That plastic Jesus reminds looks more like Egon from Ghostbusters.
