Very interesting read, also it's quite likely I have 0 degrees of separation from the hostel you stayed in at E&C but annoyingly I have no interesting anecdote about it to justify my mentioning that

was it very very purple?? I don’t remember what it was called but that’s my main lasting memory of the place
Yes! It was Safestay Elephant & Castle. Tremendously purple establishment.
